DH: As a begin could you please tell me a little bit about you and your artistically development. How did Astrovamps start out? Which musicians are involved?

Well, I guess our artistic development is ever changing and always in the making. It’s taken 14 years to craft the legacy that is known as Astrovamps thus far. Daniel and myself are the songwriters, the founders and creators of Astrovamps. The other musicians become involved in the Astrovamps process after Daniel and I bring the finished songs to the rehearsal studio. Toe-Knee is our drummer and he has to be one of the best drummers playing in the scene right now. He’s been with us since 1993. Corwin is our bass player. He doesn’t read a note of music but you would never know it. His ability to perform and play is one in the same. Even drunk! Angel is our newest member. A very talented lead guitarist and he will be recording on our next album.

DH: Why did you choose the name Astrovamps? Do you want to express something with the name?

We chose the name Astrovamps because we wanted something that only can be related to ourselves. We thought the name was odd enough that no one would reference it to anything but ourselves. The name came from a song off of the first album.

DH: Can you decribe your music style in your own words?

Gothic/deathrock with touches of Batcave and Dark glam.

DH: Your new album is called "American Gothick". Can you tell something about the release. Where did you record the album and how long did it take to record it?

The album took Daniel and I one year to write. It took another 10 months to record and mix it, but actually the recording of the album only took 5 days and it was recorded in Venice Beach, California. The rest of thetime that it took in finishing the album was in mixing and mastering. Amerikan Gothick is being released through Dark Dimensions/Alice In. It is our first full length release since 1995.

DH: Why did you choose the title for the album? What do you want to express with the title?

We wanted to choose a title that was iconistic for the collection of songs that we put together. The Amerikan Gothick painting by Grant Wood was an iconistic painting tribute to small town America. We just felt that in a way that the title would be a tribute to our style of gothic/ deathrock music.

We weren’t trying to express anything in particular but basically the expression could point to the canopy of Astrovamp music thus far.

DH: On the album there is a song called "Alice In Gothland". What is the song about?

The song is about a naughty nasty lolita vixen who finds herself in the Astrovamp world. A world that is known to her and her fellow femme fatale’s as Gothland.

DH: Your new album sounds a little bit harder to me. Since your first release had there been changes in your music? Tell us something about the process writing a song.

There’s been no conscience change in writing style. We write what we write, but it is true that the sound got harder on this album. Astrovamps gothrough many different inspirations in songwriting, but some of that may filteritself into a harder sound on certain songs.

DH: How important is your work as musicans for yourselfs?

Very important. We devote 14 years to the craft and still going so in a way it is our life blood and our legacy. So right or wrong we will always keep writing Astrovamps. 9.Do you play concerts in Germany this summer and are there further projects for the future planned (new releases, sampler contributions, ...)?

At the moment we have been offered and have accepted a slot on the ZilloFestival this summer. Although the date has been discussed with us, the actualsigning agreement between two parties have not occurred. If anything changes on that venue you can find the information on the Astrovamps website at

Daniel and I have pretty much completed writing the “Gods and Monsters”album. We look to start recording at the end of 2004. Daniel and I both havebook projects that we are working on. Toe knee is working on his projectWillow Wisp, Angel is working on Fetisch and Corwin is working on Death’s Grip.

DH: Is there anything else you'd like to tell us?

The band would really like to thank all of it’s fans worldwide for all of theirloyal support. Please go out and purchase our new album Amerikan Gothick and email us. Watch for us out on tour.
